Here is what I have to say in this video:
There is something about Rotary that I have long been wrong about. I have been skeptical about the efforts of Rotary International to create new kinds of Rotary club’s: New Generation clubs, Satellite clubs or eClubs. All these variations that I dismissed as Rotary lite. I learned something about what Rotary is trying to accomplish, adapt rather than perish, Sometimes adaptation is going to involve a lot of different experiments trying different things to see what does work.
Here’s what we do know we know that people are going to college online. We know that people shopping online. We know the people are banking online. We know the people are dating online. Maybe there’s a place in the world for an online Rotary club. You know I’ve been a member of a traditional bricks and mortar Rotary club for 40, 45 years of length and for the most part was week. I look forward to going to my Rotary meeting and visiting with my friends and seeing a program and doing various things several times during the year. I look forward to participating in some service project Riley work or a fundraiser or something else. I look forward to the six is part of my Rotary tradition. And yet, I’ve come to learn, I found out that not everybody is like me personally.
Some people are younger while some people have different financial resources and they can’t afford to belong to the Rotary club that I’d like the one I belong to.
People have different time resources. Sometimes people can’t be in the place where they live every week at a specific time or on a specific day of the week. Some people travel some people have physical abilities that make it difficult to go out so there’s a lot of different needs for different kinds of Rotary clubs.
I discovered is the Rotary is experimenting with many different Rotary club structures.. I am thinking this is probably a good that they do. We should be more open and receptive to these ideas. Maybe as an organization we need to all experiment a little bit more, so there’s one of my ideas.
