I want to share with you a few ideas about why you might want to join a Rotary eClub.
A Rotary eClub is less expensive to belong to because you’re not buying meals and it is more convenient. The club meets in your living room, your den or your office or wherever you happen to be.
The other reasons you might want to join is because we have a lot of young people in our community and I keep hearing that young people don’t join but you look online there join all kinds of things and you hear that young people don’t believe in service above self, they don’t believe in participating. Here’s what I have noticed; I used to be young and I know some people who are currently young and they do join, but they don’t join in the same kind of things that we joined in the past! Where did the Jaycees go? They didn’t adapt, but we will adapt. So, young people are joiners and many of them do like to be of service.
But here’s something else about young people today. Many of them are looking for mentors; looking for people with more experience and they have who can help them find their way in the world. So here is a challenge and an opportunity for our more tenured Rotarians who doesn’t really go to your Rotary meeting as often as used to because it’s not as convenient as it used to be. Become a member of a Rotary eClub, you might find somebody there who needs a mentor and mentoring is a lot of fun! Mentoring is something that gives back to the community for many years to come.
I get it, service above self is what we do, I encourage experience Rotarians, former Rotarians to give serious consideration to joining an online Rotary eClub. It’s not really that difficult, and it only takes a little bit of time to participate this way. But it’s got a world of opportunities. Brick-and-mortar clubs will be inviting people at the club to come to their meetings to participate in the social events to participate in their in their service projects joint.
It would be a good thing to join a Rotary eClub!
